Later
that day, Molly and Pete sit in the Park. Pete asks
Molly why she seems so down. "Anxious, I guess,"
she says.
"Scared?"
Pete asks. "Well, it's like Sheila says: Open your
heart to all your feelings. Especially your fear. Look
it smack in the face and do something about it."
"Oh,
like you running away to Sandbag, Idaho?" Molly
retorts.
"Yeah,
well we all got things to work out," Pete sighs.
"I
want to believe I can do something," Molly says,
"But everything seems so backwards. Things don't
mean the same things anymore. When we were kids, security
means Mmma's arms. Now it means nuclear arms."
"Yeah,"
Pete agrees. "You ask for security, you get bombs.
You ask for peace and you get a "cold" war."
Molly
grabs Pete's arm, "Oh Pete, I wish I could feel
really alive again, like when we were little. I feel
like I'm just existing!"
"Maybe
that's the point," Pete muses, "Just to survive."
"No,
there has to be more than that, Pete."
