OCTAVIA
VALENTINE
President of The Zero Club
A
tall, handsome woman with an undisguised and dark
humor about the world, Octavia had a successful acting
career, most prominently as "Space Girl"
on the "Space Girl" TV series. She has never
lost the theatrical presence in her personality or
the dramatic in her ideas. She retired at the very
height of her artistic prominance to dedicate herself
solely to organizing "The Zero Club," her
own way of dealing with her fear of nuclear annihilation.
She appears campy, mannered, sophisticated, but beneath
this exterior she is profoundly concerned with her
personal responsibilty to the future of the world
and the survival of humankind.

MOLLY
(MO) WILSON
Secretary & Fiance of Ned Sneedly
Molly
works as a secretary to Edward Sneedly, Executive Director
of Dynamic Security Systems, International, to whom
she is engaged. Molly is an intelligent, lively woman
who grew up during the optimism of the 50's and the
insecurity of the 60's. She has now created a composite
reality from those two and finds her only island of
security in Ned, with his positive vision of the nuclear
world. She hides the seeds of her own doubt about the
world and any responsibility for it beneath a facade
of good-natured, but staunch, apathy. |
EDWARD
(NED) SNEEDLY
Exec. Dir. Dynamic Security Systems
Ned
is Molly's boss and fiance. An entrepreneur and nuclear
physicist, he is deeply in love with Molly and determined
to save her and America from destruction at the hands
of the Communists. Should the worst happen (something
he almost longs for), he believes that a nuclear war
could be survived by a few forward-thinking souls and
maybe that's the best way to purge the world of existing
evils and start the race anew. Overtly, Ned is completely
self-confident and self-assured, certain that he is
in the right profession at the right time doing the
right thing for the world -- but underneath, there are
moments when he begins to wonder. |
SHEILA
LEEBURT
The Number One Zero
A
young woman full of energy and great sincerity. She
takes her responsibilities to the world very seriously
and enthusiastically. Her outlet for her social conscience
is a daily letter to the President, questioning and
challenging current issues and policies. She has become
discouraged at receiving only form letters in return
and disillusioned that they don't seem to relate in
any way to the issues she writes about. She is the primary
disciple of Octavia and the Zero Club. |
PETE
WILSON
Molly's Brother
Molly's
younger brother who lives in the mid-west. He's visiting
Molly for two weeks, ostensibly to help her make arrangements
for her impending wedding to Ned, but Pete's secretly
hoping to pursuade Molly to come with him to Idaho to
live. Pete is a good-natured survivalist and feels that
a good, simple life in a completely isolated location
is the only answer. He's found a town in Idaho that
is so isolated and unimportant that he feels it's safe
from fallout. He's admired his big sister his whole
life, but is horrified that she's about to marry a nuclear
arms entrepreneur. |
ADELE
Sheila's Sidekick
Whatever
Sheila does, Adele wants to do it with her. She's a
gung-ho Zero. |
|
THE
ZEROS
The
Zeros are a band of happy-go-lucky, theatrical nuclear
war protestors. They spend all their free time at the
Zero Club, where they practice theatre routines to perform
at demonstrations, print leaflets and plot new ways
to thwart the nuclear arms race. |
