As
the lights fade on the bus stop, we hear a voice over
speakers, "My fellow Zeros..." and the lights
begin to rise on The Zero Club, a huge unfinished
loft space hung with anti-nuclear posters, flyers,
civil defense logos, etc.
Octavia
Valentine stands on a small makeshift stage next to
a motley band of ... well, a band: A funky upright
piano, an old set of trap drums, and an upright bass.
"Let
me welcome you once again to another Zero Club Blast,
where the fun is dispensed by the megaton!" Octavia
continues, speaking into a hand-held mic, as the Zeros
from the bus-stop rush in the door and hang up their
coats, and other Zeros stretch and limber up on the
floor. Octavia goes on, "As you know, our motto
is 'Be There!' In the aftermath of 'The Big One' it
is said that the living will envy the dead. Well,
don't let that happen to you! Don't envy the dead,
BE the dead! Join the vanguard as we enter the next
phase of the nuclear age!"
Octavia
begins the song "Megatons of Fun" and Zeros
join in.
