I started writing this tune when I was on tour with Steve Vai and this video takes you inside the tune where I show you all the parts of it. Click on the video image to watch!

Every night after sound check I’d work on it on an empty stage.

It was inspires by “Blue Rondo a la Turk” by Dave Brubeck.

I tune each octave of the harp a different way to get the harmonies and I set up two different loops in real time at different points of the tune and then just keep adding layers and more layers.

I originally called this “My Big Idea” but I kept referring to it as “The Brubecker” so I eventually called it that.  I’d called it “My Big Idea” because it reminds me of “To Think that I Saw it on Mulberry Street” where the book starts out with this really simple thing that the kid sees and then it keeps getting bigger and bigger and then coming back to the original thought — and that’s what this tune does.
