On June 20th,  I’ll be back “Up at the Barn” – The Celebration Barn Theater – in South Paris, ME!  This time I’m only there for a one-night performance!  I can’t wait to be there, where I spent so much time as a student, and then as a teacher…

… A few years back, once a year, I’d pack my van with five harps and drive to the big old Barn in Maine where I taught a 5-day intensive workshop for performers.  The groups were small – never more than 16 – and the students were all ages, all levels and many played different instruments – though there were always many harpists!

Students came from all over the US and Europe, and many kept coming back, year after year.  The co-teacher was my long-time colleague, award-winning dancer Karen Montanaro.

Together, Karen and I would take these groups on a learning adventure that we, ourselves, came to this very barn for 20 years ago, the basic concepts we each still use today to find the authentic performer inside of each of us.

We both came to study with  Tony Montanaro, the man who turned this barn into a study/performance place, who taught us how to look to ourselves and our bodies as the foundation of our performance.

This year, on June 20th, I will use all those concepts I learned, and then taught, right where it all began, where I finally stripped the harp of all its stereotypes, and was finally able to tell MY stories with it.  I hope I see you “Up at the Barn!”
