The 7 Strings of Passion
As Applied Directly to
A Mixolydian Vamp
Start with Harps Tuned in C
[HTL-58-210121 – HARP TIME LIVE #58 – Thu. Jan. 21, 2021
In which we start from two chords, spelled just below middle C:
GAD and FGC – and we start building out an arrangement, first adding a bass (just a G), then adding melodies, then creating a kind of musical form/game with a 4-Bar chorus and alternate sections where we play just bass, then just melody, then melody and accompaniment, then just melody and bass — and all along, we’re going through the 7 strings of passion (Impulse, Structure, Character, Roles, Practice(s), Deconstruction & Lift Off) to apply the principles to what we’re playing.
Comments from This Session of Harp Time Live
“That was so magical and fun!!!” Kirsti Kaldro
“Taking on the seven strings and making the mix you create a laboratory of sound where it travels into different realms of discovery. I am in a laboratory – infusion of many faces, beings and places.” Debra Sawyer
“It really is about letting go…” Laurie Grant
“I’m always amazed at how a simple motif can give rise to a beautiful engagement with the whole harp.” Margie Bekoff
“It is amazing how such a simple structure can go so many different ways and get so various character and feeling. It was fun playing around with this.” Susanne Reimoser
“I was able to forget everything, technic, notes chords, what’s fitting. Just enjoying the movement and the sound. That such a simple idea can expand to so many beautiful things, when you connect you can resonate together. Let the harp grow in you.” Sarah Werners
