In which we start from two chords, spelled just below middle C:
GAD and FGC – and we start building out an arrangement, first adding a bass (just a G), then adding melodies, then creating a kind of musical form/game with a 4-Bar chorus and alternate sections where we play just bass, then just melody, then melody and accompaniment, then just melody and bass — and all along, we’re going through the 7 strings of passion (Impulse, Structure, Character, Roles, Practice(s), Deconstruction & Lift Off) to apply the principles to what we’re playing.

In which we shape glisses – so they’re ‘timed’ to fit in one measure, or two, or four – and also change the bass note to change the harmonic reference.

In which learn to play a slap-bass bassline of A-G-F-E. Then we ALTERNATE it with playing Blues-type riffs in this order – and in between each experiment, we played the bassline twice.
1. Pentatonic Scale (From top down: DCAGFD).
2. Bend the D to D#
3. Bend the D to D# with a G above it
4. Set D’s to D# and play D# E G

In which learn to create melodies ‘mechanically’ from scales and pivots, and then we build a harmonic sequence to support that melodic noodling. This ‘sequence’ is longer and more complex than just a vamp. It combines a vamp – the part that gets repeated – with a kind of ‘break’

In which we create a vamp from two arpeggiated chords. Each had a bass note, 3 notes in the RH and then the LH jumps up to play a note above the RH:
#1: LH:A RH:DEA LH: D (above)
#2: LH:A RH:CDG LH:B (above)
We looped this and then improvised melodically over it.
