harpists and others.
Please note that most of these materials are in PDF format.
For Pedal Harps & Lever
Harps in Eb
"Baroque Flamenco" Workshops (Pedal
Harp & Lever Harp in Eb): This
is a PDF of the One-Page Handout that's all you
need for the "Baroque Flamenco" workshop
(for Pedal Harps and Lever Harps in Eb).
You can practice it beforehand if you like.
If not, that's fine. It's mostly for helping
you recall afterwards what we'll cover
in the workshop.
"Learn to Play the Blues" Workshops
(Pedal Harp & Lever Harp in Eb): This
is a PDF of the One-Page Handout that's all you
need for the "Learn to Play the Blues"
workshop (for Pedal Harps and Lever Harps in Eb).
You can practice it beforehand if you like.
If not, that's fine. It's mostly for helping
you recall afterwards what we'll cover
in the workshop.
For
Pedal Harps & Lever Harps in C
"Baroque
Flamenco" Workshop (Pedal Harp & Lever
Harp in C): This is a PDF of the
One-Page Handout that's all you need for the "Baroque
Flamenco" workshop (for Pedal Harps and Lever
Harps in C). You can practice it beforehand
if you like. If not, that's fine.
It's mostly for helping you recall afterwards
what we'll cover in the workshop.
"Celtic
Swing" Workshop (Pedal Harp & Lever Harp
in C): This is a PDF of the 3-Page
Handout that's all you need for the "Celtic
Swing " workshop (for Pedal Harps and Lever
Harps in C). You can practice it beforehand
if you like. If not, that's fine.
It's mostly for helping you recall afterwards
what we'll cover in the workshop. If you
want to practice, it's most helpful to
practice is the Melody at Letter "A,"
although it's great if you can read the handout
through several times, just to see what's there
and to write down any questions you have about
it. When you
print this file out:
if you have the capability to print double-sided,
then I suggest you print the file double-sided
(page 2 will print onto the back of page 1), then
put the handout in a binder so you have pages
2 & 3 facing each other. Whatever you do,
DON'T print page 2 & 3 back-to-back or you'll
have to keep turning over the page during the
workshop. That's something you DON'T want to have
to do!
SIMPLE,
STANDARD JAZZ ARRANGEMENT - CELTIC
IMPROV WORKSHOP Using Vamps - in
this workshop, we used a simple tune (The
Drunken Sailor -- also known as "Earlie
in the Morning") and a simple idea
(a rhythmic vamp) to create a very simple
jazz arrangement that we could all play
and sing together. In the workshop, we
first learned to play the vamp. Then half
the students played the vamp while the
other half improvised. We switched back
and forth between the "vampers" and
the "improvisors" 'til everyone
had the idea of how it felt to improvise "over" this
rhythmic vamp. Then we created an arrangement
with an introduction, a melody, an improvisation
section (more melody, more improv ...),
melody and and ending.
Later
in the workshop, intrepid harpists took individual
solos on Deborah's CAMAC electric harp, using
her distortion pedal, while the audience yelled "Oh
yeah!!!"
This
workshop was limited to 25 harpist participants,
but the audience of over a hundred got into
the action as well, singing, clapping and egging
on the players. We'll try to get some photos
up soon! Click on the underlined workshop name

workshop in PDF format.
