WHAT'S
A MOTHER'S DAY SHOW LIKE?
Well,
it's a Deborah Henson-Conant
show, so that means you'll
see a quirky, energetic, intimate
performer who combines music,
stories and humor into shows
that are offbeat and inspiring.
DHC
is the world's leading
electric harp player,
so that means you'll
see her wail on the
Blues, toss off Flamenco
licks and use a passel
of diverse styles you've
likely never heard
coming out of a harp.
Mostly,
you'll experience a night
that's adventurous, fun
and inspiring - and come
home not just singing
the tunes, but filled
with new ideas and the
sense that things you
felt were lost forever,
are still as close as
your own eyes.
"I
love Mother's Day shows because
there's a heightened sense
of shared experience.It's
easy to fall into stereotypes
of what we think Mother's
Day should be when it's really
about revisiting the crazy,
wonderful - and sometimes
ridiculous - experience of
being someone's kid - and
the equally bizarre life-experience
of being someone's mother.
"My
own mother was the most influential
person in my life. I adore
her and desperately struggle
to avoid being like her.
When you see my shows, you
get a sense of what it was
like growing up in the shadow
of an Operatic Diva with
size 12 feet, klutzy dramatic
grace and a determination
to change the world in tiny
ways every day. Mostly by
singing."
Come
to the show. You'll see me.
You'll see me unintentionally
channel my mother. (Sigh...)
It's in the genes."
